The UNESCO Chair for World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Management in the Arab Region (WH-STAR) is pleased to announce the launch of its second competition of the year: The UNESCO Chair WH-STAR’s Photography and Videography Competition. This initiative aims to encourage young creatives across the Arab world to use visual storytelling to raise awareness about World Heritage Sites under threat from conflicts and disasters.
Competition Categories
Photography
- Submit 3-7 original photographs of a World Heritage Site under threat from conflicts and disasters.
- Include up to 350 words explaining the site and the threat it faces.
- Format: JPEG + PDF with title & description
- Photos need to be of high quality of 300 dpi or above.
- Mobile photography is allowed given the quality of the photograph is of 300 dpi or above.
Videography
- Submit 3-7 original photographs of a World Heritage Site under threat from conflicts and disasters
- The film must include translation from Arabic to English and from English to Arabic.
- A2 size advertising poster.
- Include up to 500 word description.
- Format: MP4.
Eligibility
- Open to all heritage & visual media youth enthusiasts around the Arab world.
- Between the age of 18 – 35 years old.
- The site must be from the World Heritage Sites in the Arab Region.
- Entries must be original and unpublished.
- In case of Videography, one entry per person/ group.
- In case of groups for Videography, a maximum of 3 members.
Prizes & Recognition
Top 3 in each category will benefit from national and international exposure and recognition
Terms & Conditions
- AI-generated or plagiarized work will be disqualified.
- Works must not have been submitted to prior competitions.
- By submitting their works, participants grant the UNESCO Chair WH-STAR a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, display, and distribute the works for promotional and educational purposes, with appropriate credit given to the creator. The ownership and copyright of the works remain with the original author.
